FISHING ON THE DOLPHIN COAST

A spot-by-spot overview

Tongaat River Mouth, Tongaat Long Beach, Sweet Waters, Salmon Bay and Ballito Pool,Emberton Road, Boulder Bay and Jackson's, Willard Beach and Wilson's, Chaka’s High Rock, Catfish, Salt Rock Pool, Van der Riets, Granthans, Dave’s Rock, Christmas Bay, Umhlali River Mouth, Umhlali Beach, The Pantry Headlands, Rapsons / Red Rocks, Stink Rock, Loves Beach, Mail Boat, Deep Green, Umvoti River Mouth, Blythedale Beach, Channel Rock, Princes Grant area, Nonoti, Iti Bay, Lion Rocks, Black Rock, Zinkwazi Car Park, Zinkwazi Bay, Boiling Pots, Mervin’s Hole and Second Rocks Seola Point.

Willards Beach is the main bathing beach with Bog & Surfers to the south and Sunrise to the north, the very popular surfing and body boarding spots. These beaches are protected by shark nets and have qualified life guards on duty during the day.( do not forget sun protection)

A 15 minute walk south of Willards Beach you will come across Clarke Bay with its rocky pools on either side of the beach area. Lifeguards and shark nets are provided for your protection at this beach as well.

Due south of Clarke Bay you will find Ballito's Tidal Pool built on Ballito Point in between the rocks. Here you should have a very refreshing dip as fresh sea water flows into the pool on the high tides. You will also notice a variety small fish while swimming in the pool. (Caution should be taken when there is heavy surf action).

Ballito Point at times has a good left break for the surfers into Salmon Bay.

Surfing & Body Boarding.
Ballito’s, Salmon Bay, Clark Bay,Willard's Beach, Thompson Bay, Salt Rock and Tiffany's are reknown for great wave action.-.

When there is a land breeze you are sure to find a brillant left break at Salmon Bay. As for Willard's which has three defind surfing areas namely Bog, Surfer's & Sunrise these are predomently right breaks and this also applies to the rest of the surfing spots such as Thompsons Bay, Salt Rock, Tiffany's Tinley Manor Blythedale and Zinkwazi.

During the winter months a light wetsuit may be required as the sea temperature might drop below 20c.
